Since 1 May 2013 I'm back at what is now the section for Visual Computing (formerly called Image Analysis and Computer Graphics) with DTU Compute - Applied Mathematics and Computer Science, since 1 September 2020 as an Emeritus. Transferred to DTU Space - National Space Institute (formerly called the Danish National Space Center) on 1 January 2007. Associate Professor with the Section for Geoinformatics at DTU Informatics - Informatics and Mathematical Modelling (IMM) from December 2001. Part time substitute for Professor Knut Conradsen (then Provost/Deputy Rector of the Technical University of Denmark) from January 1995 till December 2001. With IMM's Section for Image Analysis from May 1985. With DTU's Thermal Insulation Laboratory 1978-1985. With the Danish Defense Research Establishment in 1978.
M.Sc. in 1978 from the Department of Electrophysics, now a part of the department Ørsted, Technical University of Denmark (basically in atomic and nuclear physics and applications). Thesis entitled Analysis of mono-energetic gamma-spectra (Analyse af mono-energetiske gamma-spektre in Danish). Supervisors Professor Povl Lebeck Ølgaard and Assistant Professor Anders Damkjær.
Ph.D. in 1994 from the Institute of Mathematical Modelling, now a part of Informatics and Mathematical Modelling, Technical University of Denmark. Thesis entitled Analysis of Regularly and Irregularly Sampled Spatial, Multivariate, and Multi-temporal Data (see summary). Supervisor Professor Knut Conradsen.
I am the proud father of two wonderful girls, Ida and Pi; their mother is my wife Karin.
Joined the army in 1977-1978, served with the Danish Defense Research Establishment working on secret matters.Worked on energy conservation in housing with the Thermal Insulation Laboratory, now a part of the BYG-DTU, Department of Civil Engineering, Technical University of Denmark, from 1978 to 1985. My main activities in that period had to do with 1) construction and maintenance of a large data base containing information on temperatures and heat input in six experimental low-energy houses at Hjortekær, Denmark, 2) air infiltration measurement techniques, and 3) modelling heat dynamics and indoor temperatures (often with pseudo-random heat input). Member of the permanent computer committee of the faculty of civil engineering 1983-1985.
Since 1985 with the Section for Image Analysis, (previously called the IMSOR Image Group), IMM, Informatics and Mathematical Modelling, Technical University of Denmark. (IMSOR, the Institute of Mathematical Statistics and Operations Research is now a part of IMM.)
Supervisor and co-supervisor for many B.Sc., M.Sc. and Ph.D. students.
From 1985 till 1995 work on several projects on application of statistical methods and remote sensing in geology, environment and agriculture funded by the European Union (contracts MSM-114-DK, MA1M-0015-DK(B), MA2M-CT90-0010, and BRE2-CT92-0201) and Danida, the Danish International Development Agency (contract 104.Dan.8/410). Target areas were situated in Greenland, Spain, Germany and Kenya. Also work on four year program on construction of modular, operational image processing systems (MOBS) funded by the Danish National Technical Research Council (STVF).
Since 1988 private consultant primarily with mathematical and (geo)statistical data analysis in geology and other (geo)sience related matters (also some practical experience in work with physicians and medical data on results from clinical investigations, and other data analytical issues), check here.

On 26-27 March 2017 I was invited as one of a dozen European experts to take part in the community-led AI4EO (Artificial Intelligence for Earth Observation) workshop held at the ESA/ESRIN Φ-lab. The aim of the workshop was to informally assess progress in the development and application of AI techniques to the world of EO and to explore the potential value of a concerted Research and Innovation (R&I) effort on this topic at European level.
Since 2018 I am the Danish national representative in the EARSeL (European Association of Remote Sensing Laboratories) Council.

I like a good meal and a glass of wine on occasions. I have nothing against a pint of beer or a glass of malt whisky (or whiskey for that matter). Also, I like to play the guitar, the banjo etc. I (used to) play with an acoustic group called Scrumpy who play(ed) mostly Irish and Scots traditional music. (Lovers of this music should check Mich G. Nielsen's, Copenhagen Irish Festival and Copenhagen Folk Club's, Ash Plant's, etc. homepages.) I also like to hang around in live music cafés, I'm not saying I do it, all I'm saying is that I like it - can be met sometimes/rarely at the Bartof Café run by a friend of mine, Joakim Friis-Holm, in Frederiksberg, Copenhagen, however, not often enough. Joakim plays (the harp and the bouzouki) with Ash Plant (and used to play with Harp'n'Drum). Another friend, Kim Christiansen, runs a great beer place in central Copenhagen called Ørsted ølbar & café. He also runs the great Søernes ølbar by Sortedammen. Kim used to play with both Scrumpy and Harp'n'Drum. I also enjoy Monday Night Big Band headed by Niels Jørgen Steen (yes, they play Monday nights) at Vognporten in central Copenhagen, again not often enough. Check AOK and KultuNaut also.
